Our Organization
The Regional Perinatal System (RPS) is a collaborative project of
Children's Hospital, Sharp HealthCare and UCSD Medical Center and
is funded by the California Department of Health, Maternal Child
Health Branch. RPS serves as a nonpartisan liaison, consultant and
resource for all perinatal providers in San Diego and Imperial Counties.
RPS activities are guided by local issues/needs and input from the:
- Regional Perinatal Advisory Board
- San Diego Perinatal Advisory Council (PAC)
- Perinatal Nurse Leaders Council (PNLC)
- Multi-disciplinary HealthCare Providers
- State of California, Department of Health, MCH Branch
Population Served
The Region covers a large geographic area containing two counties:
- San Diego with a population of over 2 million and births in
excess of 50,000 per year
- Imperial County with 140,000 residents and 3,000 births annually
The region includes a major urban area, with multiple health and
social service providers, near the coast; and isolated, inland rural
areas with limited resources.
