California Association of Neonatologists (CAN)

The California Association of Neonatologists was created by an ad hoc meeting of the Directors of California neonatal units who met for the purpose of initiation, discussion, and development of ideas that will improve the care of infants and define, promote, and promulgate the standards for care of the fetus and newborn. The Association acknowledges the District IX Section on Perinatal Pediatrics and shares a common goal of improving the outcome of pregnancy and the care of newborn infants.

California Children’s Services (CCS)

CCS is a statewide program that treats children with certain physical limitations and chronic health conditions or diseases. CCS can authorize and pay for specific medical services and equipment provided by CCS-approved specialists. The California Department of Health Services manages the CCS program. Larger counties operate their own CCS programs, while smaller counties share the operation of their program with state CCS regional offices in Sacramento, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. The program is funded with state, county, and federal tax monies, along with some fees paid by parents.

California Perinatal Quality Care Collaborative (CPQCC)

California Perinatal Transport System (CPeTS)

The California Perinatal Transport Systems was established in 1976 pursuant to the enactment of California Assembly Bill 4439. This act appropriated funds for the development of a dispatch service to address the need for facilitating transports of critically ill infants and mothers with high risk conditions to regional Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) and Perinatal High Risk Units (PHRUs).

Regional Perinatal Programs of California (RPPC)

The Regional Perinatal Programs of California (RPPC) evolved from the need for comprehensive, cooperative networks of public and private health care providers within geographic areas to promote the well-being of pregnant women and their babies. In the early 1980s the California Legislature mandated the development of a statewide network of perinatal regionalization. The goal was to match the needs of high risk perinatal patients with the appropriate type of care by developing a multi-tiered network of care providers and facilities within specific geographic areas. This site lists contact information for regional perinatal programs in California. This site also links to the California Perinatal Transport Systems (CPeTS), which provides neonatal, high risk maternity, and pediatric ICU bed availability in Northern and Southern California CCS designated hospitals.
